From New Port Richey on this journey we decided to go to Washington DC. DW and DS had never been and it was a good oportunity to go. We decided to take I95 on this leg and drove through the south of the border. That was a site. The first night we just checked in, relaxed and caught up on laundry. The next morning we hit the ground running and took the car to see the sites. Our first stop was the Arlington National Cemetery. The cemetery was so large and well maintained. We walked to the tomb of the unknown soldiers first and watched the changing of the guards.

It was amazing to watch. We also walked to see the buriel site of John F Kennedy. From here we saw the Thomas Jefferson Memorial. It hard to comprehend how large these building are until you see them. We also saw the Lincoln Memorial, Washington Monument and White House. Right now the Washington Monument is under construstion due to an earthquake that damaged it. It waqs alot of walking but the weather was overall good during the day. We had pretty good luck finding parking on the streets in DC and in downtown.

Our next stop was the National Archives. Their was a bit of a wait to get in but it was neat to see all the documents up close. From there we went across the street to the Smithsonian Musuem of Natural History. This place was awesome. So much to see in one building from dinosaurs, sea creatures, mammals, gems and stones. We also drove by the capital building but it was raining so hard we did not get out.Our final day in DC we went to the National Zoo. We got there fairly early before the crowds and heat. The zoo had a great layout and lots of shade. We saw many of the animals including the panda bear, otters, big cats and monkeys to name a few.
